Helgoland Island
The island of Helgoland is 92 km away from the holiday apartment and can only be reached per boat.
There are many islands in the North Sea, but Helgoland is unique. It is about 70 km away from the main land and its red sandstone cliff rise majestically from the sea.
Due to the islands geograpical and geological situation, visits are worthwhile all year round. Even winter times offer spectacles of nature, such as baby seals on the Helgoland Dune.
The island also offers the opportunity for duty-free shopping. Visitors can buy alcohol, cigarettes, coffee and perfume – within the legal limits and the limits of their wallet.
The ‚Lange Anna‘is a famous landmark of Helgoland. The sandstone rock column is ca. 47 metres high and can be found at the North West edge of the island.
The ‘Lummenfelsen’ is Germany’s smallest nature reserve. Over 2000 comme guillemots bread on small rocky crags from April to July. There are also other birds, such as gannets and sea gulls. The ornithological station offers truly amazing guided tours.
The ‚Dune Island‘is an island of roughly one square kilometer. It is about a kilometer away from Helgoland. The island is a popular destination for everyone, with beautiful beaches and a small airfield. With a bit of luck, explorers can find fossils on rocky Eastern shore and may be able to spot North Sea seals enjoying the sunshine on the beach.
